A sustainable approach to smart sockets

Sustainability is more than just a buzzword. At measurable.energy, we take this responsibility seriously especially when it comes to the embodied carbon of our products and their own carbon emissions.

Our commitment to circularity to minimise waste and maximise environmental benefit is evident in every aspect of our operations, particularly in the design and lifecycle management of our AI-powered smart sockets.

Material circular economy

We prioritise material circularity when replacing traditional sockets with our sockets. Our approach ensures responsible disposal and reuse of standard sockets removed from buildings. This includes:

  • WEEE Recycling: As a responsible Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) producer, we utilise registered Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) disposal companies to handle all discarded sockets. This ensures proper recycling, avoiding environmental hazards, and is offered at no additional cost to our customers or installers.

Product lifecycle and circular impact

Compared to standard sockets our sockets boast a comparable lifecycle, with additional electronics optimised for carbon reduction. Each of our sockets eliminates on average 9.87kg CO2 every month, eliminating its own carbon footprint (1.62kg CO2) within the first month of usage thanks to energy savings.

At the end of life we're able to recycle and reuse 0.91kg CO2 per socket, leaving a remaining carbon footprint of 0.71kg CO2. This holistic approach to circularity minimises waste and maximises environmental benefits throughout the product's journey.

To ensure transparency and accuracy in our environmental claims, we conduct rigorous Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) verified by London South Bank University and create Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) verified by BRE. These assessments provide a detailed breakdown of the environmental impact throughout the product's lifecycle.

Accessibility for all users

Accessibility is key to driving widespread adoption of sustainable solutions. Our smart socket system is designed to be accessible to businesses, regardless of whether they own the building. With a simple faceplate swap installation, there's no need to modify building wiring, circuits, or add additional hardware. This keeps the system cost-effective, minimises disruption and allows customers to start experiencing savings within 24 hours of activation.
